This island is a fitting place for the Birthplace of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty. This beautiful island is situated in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean.
It is a politically and geographically divided Island. With the northern third inhabited by Turkish Cypriots and the Southern two thirds by Greek Cypriots. The southern division joined the EU in 2004 with the northern third still having certain criteria to fulfil before being accepted. Recently the border dividing the Island was opened to allow crossing between the two portions, providing an opportunity for inhabitants to cross to the forbidden sides for the first time since the Turkish invasion of 1974.
Aphrodite was born of sea foam emerging from the sea at one of the most picturesque parts of the island. Petra Tou Romiou (Stone of Romeo check this with mom!) rises majestically from the Ocean near the second largest city of Cyprus – Paphos. Thus making Cyprus one of the prime tourism destinations for weddings. What better place to get married, than on this Island where the Goddess of Love and Beauty was born? From romantic walks on the sun kissed beaches to sultry nights sampling the night-life and all that Cyprus has to offer.
The prime holiday destinations in Cyprus are: Paphos, Polis, Pissouri and Aphrodite Hills.
